Emergency Services

Emergency and Trauma services are accessible round-the-clock, 365 days a year, via the Emergency Room at Universal College of Medical Sciences (UCMS). The ER is staffed by ER Medical Officers working in shifts. In cases requiring specialist attention, Consultant doctors and Resident doctors from all specialties are available on call.

The ER has a capacity of 25 beds, with provisions for expanding during mass casualties such as natural disasters or accidents. Additional beds are brought in, with extra nursing staff deployed, and trauma specialist doctors, primarily in Orthopaedic, General, and Neurosurgery, stationed in the ER to handle patient influx efficiently. Emergency surgeries can be performed at any time as the Operating Theater operates 24x7.

Equipped with 2 critical care beds supported by individual bedside cardiac monitors, syringe/infusion pumps, defibrillator, and multi-purpose ventilator, the ER ensures prompt care. Additionally, there is a minor procedure room, separate observation rooms for OBG and Paediatric patients, and central Oxygen and suction lines (MGPS). Round-the-clock diagnostic services including CT-Scan, MRI, X-Ray, and USG are available.

The Clinical Labs, encompassing Biochemistry, Pathology, and Microbiology, operate 24/7. For non-ambulatory patients, ramps are provided at the entrance, and ample wheelchairs, trolleys, and stretchers are available at no cost.

Supportive services for Emergency patients include a 24-hour Pharmacy on the second floor, a dedicated Billing Counter during working hours, and ATMs conveniently located at the main entrance and ground floor. The coffee shop operates from 7 AM till 11 PM, with plans to extend to 24-hour service. Round-the-clock power backup and ambulance services are also provided.
